THE YOUNG MUSICIANS’ SOCIETY
EVENT BROCHURE DESIGN
OVERVIEW
The Young Musicians’ Society (YMS) was formed in 1969 under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education to promote ensemble music-making among the youth of Singapore. With the completion of the YMS Arts Centre in 1993, the society established itself as an active contributor to Singapore’s musical and arts community, supporting performances, recitals and music education.
For its programme of concerts and recitals, YMS required promotional materials that could communicate the character of each event while presenting essential programme and ticketing information clearly. The designs needed to appeal to diverse audiences and reflect the energy and variety of the society’s musical calendar.
OBJECTIVES
- Create distinctive promotional materials for individual concerts and recitals
- Present programme and event information clearly and accessibly
- Develop visual treatments suited to different musical performances
- Maintain a recognisable visual connection with YMS
SOLUTIONS
- Distinctive visual identities: Each event was given its own visual treatment, allowing the character of the performers and music to shape the design.
- Typography and imagery: Bold typography, photography, illustration and graphic elements were combined to create engaging compositions suited to each programme.
- Clear information structure: Concert details, repertoire, performers, venues and ticketing information were organised into readable layouts without compromising the visual impact.
- A varied design language: From classical recitals to contemporary ensemble performances, the series explored different moods and approaches while retaining a sense of continuity across YMS communications.
The result is an enduring creative partnership with YMS that has scaled across multiple years. By capturing the organization's raw passion for music, the vibrant collection of concert brochures, recital programmes, and campaign materials beautifully mirrors their diverse event calendar.
