LIGHT CANVAS PHOTOGRAPHY

OVERVIEW

Light Canvas Photography is an initiative founded by Ease Communications to engage, educate and showcase the art of photography. Built around a passion for the craft, it brings together photography talks, field lessons, workshops, exhibitions and an online platform for sharing images and ideas.

With digital cameras and image-making technology becoming increasingly accessible, photography is no longer the exclusive domain of professionals. The challenge was to create an identity that could express this openness while giving the initiative a distinctive character – one that could equally represent learning, participation and the simple joy of seeing through a camera.

IDEATION

The name Light Canvas comes from the long-standing description of photography as “painting with light” – an idea that captures photography not simply as the act of recording an image, but as a creative process of shaping light, composition and perspective.

This became the basis for the graphical identity. The canvas is represented by the grey structure, while the camera is layered into it in black, creating a simple visual equation between camera, canvas and light. The resulting mark gives literal form to the idea behind the name while remaining distinctive and easy to apply.

The identity was extended across print collateral, educational materials, exhibition communication and a website designed as a space to showcase photographic work and share the craft with others.

The result is an identity rooted in the essence of photography itself – a visual language for a platform where the passion for painting with light can be shared, taught and experienced.
