OVERVIEW
As Singapore’s national specialist centre for the diagnosis and treatment of skin disorders, the National Skin Centre (NSC) provides specialist clinical care alongside dermatological education and research. Its bimonthly newsletter, Derma Digest, serves as a regular platform for sharing clinical knowledge, developments and organisational news.
For its 2015 makeover, NSC wanted a fresher and more contemporary newsletter that could accommodate text-heavy content while remaining clear and engaging. The challenge was to establish a flexible visual system that brought greater hierarchy, readability and consistency to the four-page publication.
SOLUTIONS
- Six-colour thematic system: Six distinctive accent colours were developed as a flexible visual system, with each colour assigned to an issue for variety while maintaining a cohesive publication identity.
- Typography & white space: A modern sans serif typeface was selected for readability, balanced with generous white space to break up dense content and create a smoother visual flow.
- Three-column grid: A versatile three-column grid provided a consistent framework for organising articles, images and supporting information, while allowing flexibility across different content types.
The result is a sharper and more contemporary Derma Digest, with a flexible editorial system that brings greater clarity, rhythm and visual interest to NSC’s regular communications.
